A recent poll by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that a majority of Americans, including Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, support forgiving medical debt in various scenarios. The survey showed that about half of Americans consider it extremely or very important for the U.S. government to provide debt relief for individuals with outstanding medical bills, especially in cases of health care fraud. The poll also indicated high levels of support for medical debt forgiveness in situations where the patient faces financial hardship or has large amounts of debt compared to their income.
