Malawi's Vice President Saulos Chilima was aboard a military plane that disappeared from radar shortly after takeoff from the capital Lilongwe, with 9 others on board. President's office stated that the aircraft failed to land as scheduled after 43 minutes, prompting a full-scale search and rescue operation to be launched. Chilima was en route to attend the funeral of a former Justice Minister, but contact with the plane was lost soon after departure, leading to concerns and official action.
