A Malayan tapir named 'Hideo英雄' from Yokohama Zoo in Japan, who was supposed to come to Taiwan for bloodline exchange, unexpectedly died upon arrival on June 21, which was also his 2nd birthday. Taipei Zoo announced the sad news and mentioned that they will promptly contact veterinary experts to conduct a pathological autopsy to clarify the cause of death. The incident has left both Taiwanese and Japanese zoo colleagues deeply saddened, prompting Taipei Zoo to work closely with Japanese counterparts to review the animal transport process for insights into the cause of this unfortunate event. The tapir had a weight over 50 kg at the time of birth and was part of an exchange program between Taiwan and Japan. The zoo plans to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. for a preliminary explanation.
