Hideo, a two-year-old Malayan Tapir from Yokohama Zoo in Japan, tragically died upon arrival in Taiwan after being found lifeless in a transport crate. Originally scheduled to arrive on June 21, Taipei Zoo is working with veterinary experts to conduct a pathological autopsy to determine the cause of death. Hideo, known for his gentle nature and shyness, was born in Yokohama Zoo in January 2022 and was supposed to promote genetic exchange among Malayan Tapirs. The Taipei Zoo and the Japanese colleagues are saddened by the incident and are reviewing the transport process while investigating the unexpected cause of death.
