Yesterday (June 21), a Malayan tapir named 'Hideo 英雄' that was expected to come to Taiwan from Japan for genealogical exchange was found lifeless upon arrival in a cargo plane. Both Taiwanese and Japanese zoo staff who had worked hard on this case expressed deep sorrow and regret. Taipei Zoo plans to contact veterinary experts to conduct a pathological autopsy to clarify the cause of death, and will also collaborate with Japanese counterparts to review the animal transportation process for understanding the possible causes of the accident. Further updates on the autopsy findings will be provided as they become available.
