The Malayan tapir named 'Hideo' from Yokohama Zoo in Japan, expected to arrive at Taipei Zoo on June 21, was discovered lifeless upon arrival, prompting Taipei Zoo to collaborate with veterinary experts for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. Hideo, born on January 12, 2022, was supposed to engage in genetic exchange during this visit. The sudden unexpected incident has left both Taiwanese and Japanese zoo colleagues saddened and regretful, with Taipei Zoo expressing its intention to promptly contact veterinary scholars to conduct a pathological autopsy and review the animal transportation process to better assess potential causes of the accident.
