Malayan tapir 'Hideo Hero' from Japan tragically passed away while traveling to Taiwan on June 21. The Taipei Zoo revealed preliminary autopsy results indicating that the cause of death was likely systemic circulatory failure, coagulation dysfunction, and pulmonary edema due to heat stress. The tapir's body had visible signs of stress including elevated core temperature of 41 degrees Celsius upon arrival. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tapir's distress during transport.
