Malaysia's trade ministry announced that, effective immediately, the export, transshipment, and transit of high-performance artificial intelligence chips of U.S. origin will require a trade permit. Companies must notify authorities at least 30 days in advance for any items not listed on Malaysia's strategic items list. This measure aims to close regulatory gaps while reviewing the inclusion of these AI chips in the list, as Malaysia enhances semiconductor regulations under U.S. pressure to control chip flows to China.
