Malaysia Rises as Semiconductor Hub, Attracting Major Investments

According to a report by CNBC, Malaysia is emerging as a significant player in the semiconductor industry, attracting large companies due to factors like skilled labor in packaging, assembly, and testing, lower operational costs, and favorable currency performance. Major semiconductor companies like Intel and GlobalFoundries have established operations in Malaysia, with Intel's first assembly plant outside the US in Penang and GlobalFoundries setting up a plant in 2023. In January 2024, Malaysia established a National Semiconductor Strategy Task Force to further develop its semiconductor ecosystem, solidifying its position in the global market.
