In New Taipei City on June 18, 2024, a man was attacked on the street in broad daylight by a debt collector demanding a repayment of NT$25,000. The victim was unable to pay, angering the collector who then chased and severely wounded him with a machete. Bystanders called the authorities while the victim, covered in blood, lay motionless on the road. The attacker, with bloodied hands and a menacing attitude, was arrested on-site. The victim, although critically wounded, was confirmed to be out of immediate danger and promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
