Aivaras Zigmantas, a 39-year-old Lithuanian national living in Chicago and Fort Lauderdale, has pleaded not guilty after being indicted for allegedly posing as a carrier agent, deceiving companies into releasing shipments to him and stealing over $9.5 million worth of goods. He was charged with wire fraud, bank fraud, and theft of interstate shipments for a scheme that lasted from March 2020 to September 2023, where he worked with others and used fake names to divert shipments, renting heavy equipment and warehouses to hide the stolen items. Zigmantas created fake carriers and brokers and targeted victims on online marketplaces, recruiting others to join the operation while obtaining fraudulent licenses and passports.
