Man Clashes with AIT and Presidential Office, Mercedes-Benz Driver 'Extremely Uncooperative' with NT$200,000 Bail, Exit and Sea Travel Restrictions Imposed

On July 2, 2024, a 49-year-old man surnamed Du was ordered to post a bail of NT$200,000 and was prohibited from leaving the country or sailing for eight months, with responsibilities assigned to his spouse. He drove a white Mercedes-Benz adorned with slogans such as 'National Security,' 'AI Transformation,' and 'Cybersecurity SOS' to create disturbances near the American Institute in Taiwan's (AIT) office in Neihu, followed by crashing into a flowerbed in front of the Presidential Office. Despite claiming confusion and being diagnosed with schizophrenia, he was charged with public endangerment and obstruction of official duties.
