On July 1, 2024, a man named Du drove a Mercedes into the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and later crashed into the front statue at the Presidential Office. Upon leaving the police station, the 48-year-old Du was emotionally charged and shouted 'National Security Agent'. Du had vandalized his Mercedes with phrases like 'national cognitive warfare' and 'cybersecurity SOS invasion' before driving to the AIT and then the Presidential Office. Despite causing damage, no casualties were reported, and Du will face charges of endangering the public and destruction under the criminal law.
