FTNN News Network reported on June 24, 2024 that a man in Kaohsiung died last year after seeking medical help for headaches. Earlier reports claimed that samples taken from his brain revealed the presence of the 'Naegleria fowleri amoeba,' commonly known as the 'brain-eating amoeba,' leading to encephalitis and ultimately his death. However, the Kaohsiung Health Bureau clarified today that the patient was diagnosed with 'amebic dysentery' instead. The Bureau emphasized that there have been no confirmed cases of 'Naegleria fowleri amoeba meningoencephalitis' in Taiwan so far this year.
