A mainland Chinese man, Ren Fangyong, who drove a speedboat across the Taiwan Strait and intruded on the Tamsui River, was arrested and detained by the court for attempting to enter Taiwan illegally without permission. Ren, a former naval officer of the Chinese Communist Party who claimed he wanted to seek freedom in Taiwan, said 'no regrets coming to Taiwan' before being taken away. The court deemed this incident to be related to national security and ordered Ren to be held in custody for further investigation.
