In Changhua, Taiwan, a man surnamed Zhang, who was 35 years old and unemployed, with a disability card, went out onto the streets with a kitchen knife last December. He attacked two out-of-town female tourists in Yuanlin Park. After successfully harming them, he then turned the knife on himself, declaring a desire to self-harm and 'just wanting to hurt others.' Zhang was eventually sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for attempted murder. It was discovered that Zhang had a history of violence, including a previous incident at a hospital. Despite claiming no intent to commit murder, he was convicted of two counts of attempted murder for the random stabbing incident.
