In Chiayi, a man surnamed Chen broke into his ex-wife's home and killed his rival before escaping, later found dead from alcohol poisoning in a motel. Chen had a record of injuring his ex-wife's former boyfriend at a temple fair two years ago, but was humiliated by the victim despite compensating NT$350,000. Chen posted on Facebook saying he thought about destroying the victim every day along with mentioning 5 ways of revenge, including shooting and arson. The 44-year-old Chen and his ex-wife had two children together and divorced suspicion of his friend having an affair with his wife, leading to the tragic incident where Chen broke into his ex-wife's place on Self-Improvement Street around 3 a.m., fatally injuring the victim and his 24-year-old son in front of his ex-wife, resulting in the son being rushed to the hospital. Police located Chen hiding in a motel based on clues, where they found him dead from alcohol poisoning after gunshots were heard during a standoff on the morning of the 20th. It was revealed that Chen assaulted the victim two years ago before his divorce, leading to his prosecution for causing injury. Chen had been posting over 50 articles on Facebook since June, narrating the betrayal of his ex-wife and the victim, expressing a desire for revenge, mentioning his determination to seek revenge through various means, even crafting a 'tablet' and writing 3 wills, declaring his intention not to hold a funeral or any Buddhist rites, revealing thoughts of seeking death after taking revenge.
