On June 26, 2024, the Taichung District Prosecutors' Office indicted a man surnamed Hong for attempted murder and public intimidation in connection with a random stabbing incident on the Taichung MRT. The case was transferred to the Taichung District Court, which ruled for pretrial detention for the defendant. Hong, who showed no remorse during the investigation, had premeditated the crime due to dissatisfaction with his personal life and society, and chose the day of the 10th anniversary of the Zheng Jie murder case to carry it out. Despite demonstrating regret later, the prosecution emphasized the severe impact and danger he posed to society, seeking a heavy sentence from the court.
