On July 3, 2024, the Yunlin District Prosecutor's Office seized 1119 bottles of avian influenza vaccines at a logistics company in Chiayi. A man surnamed Li from Yunlin County was found to have purchased 343 boxes (each containing 10 bottles) of concentrated avian influenza vaccines and waterfowl avian virus antibodies on the Chinese e-commerce platform Taobao, which were then smuggled to Taiwan by air cargo. The man, knowing Taiwan's animal health regulations, is now accused of illegally importing and transferring banned animal medicines, violating the Animal Drug Management Act. The vaccines containing components of avian influenza and waterfowl avian virus antibodies are strictly prohibited in Taiwan's current epidemic prevention policy to prevent the spread of diseases among poultry and potential risks to public health.
