Man Saves Vomiting Wife on Roadside, Fined $4,000

Reported about 1 year ago

A man surnamed Chen from Yunlin, Taiwan, was fined NT$4,000 for stopping on the roadside to help his cancer-stricken wife who was vomiting uncontrollably. Chen was reported by a car behind him for illegally using the shoulder of the road, but the Taiwan Taichung High Administrative Court later overturned the fine, ruling that his actions fell under emergency rescue and did not violate the law. Chen's wife, suffering from cancer and disabilities, had vomited in the car, prompting Chen to stop and attend to her to prevent choking, which was deemed a necessary emergency measure.
