A man in his 40s, surnamed Xiao, was found guilty of extorting two Shiba Inu dogs that belonged to a person surnamed Sun. Xiao found the dogs after they went missing, took them home, and demanded a ransom of 30,000 yuan to return the dogs. When the owner reported the incident to the police, Xiao was arrested. Following a trial, Xiao was sentenced to a 3-month prison term and fined 5,000 yuan for attempted extortion and unlawful possession of property. If he opts to pay the fine instead, he would be charged 1,000 yuan per day.
