In Taipei, on June 11, 2024, at 6:39 a.m., a bar in Ximending was vandalized by a man who attempted to smash the glass with a roadside chair, then tried to break open the door with a brick after failing. The suspect, upon being caught, told the police that someone inside the bar was asking for help and that he committed the act to save them, despite the bar not yet being operational. The vandal, a man named Xiao, was sentenced to 30 days in jail for the property damage. The affected establishment, despite having bulletproof glass that wasn't shattered, incurred over 100,000 NT dollars in damages and found the vandal's explanation unacceptable.
