On June 26, 2024, a man named Lee Chanye ate grilled oysters at a barbecue restaurant in Sandou District, resulting in severe diarrhea for the entire day, with a total of 6 accompanying people seeking medical treatment. There have been recent cases of suspected food poisoning in Taiwan, with 10 people recently falling ill after eating at 'Hongwu Curry' in Xizhi Far Eastern Plaza and now in a barbecue restaurant in Sandou District, Taichung City. After investigating, the Taichung City Food Safety Department found several hygiene issues at the restaurant and has ordered improvements, with penalties up to 200 million NTD if not complied. Samples were taken for further testing to determine the cause of the suspected food poisoning.
