Reported about 1 year ago
In Changhua, Taiwan, a man surnamed Chen who three years ago killed his cohabiting girlfriend and their biological twin babies by suffocating them in a washing machine, was initially sentenced to death twice. However, upon retrial at the Taichung High Court, the judge believed he showed signs of remorse and altered the sentence to life imprisonment, causing great distress to the victims' family. The judge considered the perpetrator's abusive upbringing and personal struggles as contributing factors, leading to sympathy despite the brutal crime. The decision has left the victims' family deeply saddened, as they had hoped for a death penalty. Despite emotional pleas, the new sentence is final.
