Man with Gun Tries to Board MRT and Plays Dumb with Police

Reported 11 months ago

In New Taipei City, a man with a gun tucked into his waist tried to enter the Jiangzicui MRT station, alarming other passengers. When police arrived, he tried to act nonchalant, claiming carrying a gun was 'cool' and even called the officers 'big brother' to feign familiarity. The man, identified as a 40-year-old surnamed Wang, was caught and taken to the police station for carrying a prohibited item. He later confessed that he thought carrying a gun was fashionable. Bringing such items on public transport can incur hefty fines or even legal consequences as displayed warnings prohibit dangerous objects. Wang, who came to find work in Banqiao, got drunk after failing and decided to carry a BB gun bought for NT$500 into the MRT station, resulting in him being prosecuted under the Social Order Maintenance Act.
