In Alton, Illinois, USA, a football field suddenly collapsed on Wednesday (6/26), forming a wide 100-foot (about 30 meters) and deep 30-foot (about 15 meters) crater. Fortunately, there were no people on the field at the time of the incident. The sinkhole was likened to an explosion by a local sports club official, expressing relief that no one was injured. The cause was attributed to underground mining activities, with the operating company reporting the incident to the Mine Safety and Health Administration for investigation. The local authorities are awaiting geological assessments before deciding on further actions.
