Massive sinkhole swallows soccer field in Illinois

Reported 9 months ago

A huge sinkhole, approximately 100 feet wide and 30 feet deep, suddenly appeared at Gordon Moore Park in Alton, Illinois, engulfing a light pole and emitting smoke. The incident, caused by a mine collapse, was captured on a security camera and fortunately occurred when no one was on the field. The park has been closed for investigation and repairs, with the responsible company, New Frontier Materials, ensuring safety measures are in place. Sinkholes are a natural occurrence due to underground water circulation, but can also result from human activities like mining or utility line leaks.
