Matson, a shipping and logistics provider, reported a significant increase in third-quarter profits, with operating income rising to $227 million from $118 million a year prior. The growth was driven by higher freight rates from China and domestic markets, as well as a 2.6% increase in container volumes to and from China. Despite a decline in Hawaii's container volumes, Matson expects fourth-quarter operating income to be substantially higher than the previous year.
