In June 12, 2024, Matsu military personnel were found complaining about the lack of meat to eat, prompting a scandal where Coast Guard officials, led by Lieutenant Colonel Lin Youbo, embezzled 64 boxes of canned food including beef and various delicacies. Lin and 6 others were prosecuted, with Lin receiving a 3-year prison sentence, while others received 1 year 3 months to 2 years 8 months. The scheme involved diverting the goods off the island via various tactics, with some food being sent back to Taiwan for personal consumption. The court also ordered confiscation of money involved. Strengthened monitoring and education measures were implemented post-incident. The case can be appealed.
