New Taipei City faced a turbulent May with three consecutive murder cases including a family massacre, a single mother killing her two children, and a soldier allegedly murdering his girlfriend, totaling up to '321' deaths, which left the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office unnerved by the uncanny coincidences. In a bid to calm the spate of incidents, the Chief Prosecutor led a group of prosecutors to a nearby temple to seek blessings in hopes of restoring peace in the region. Following this visit, the rate of murders in June noticeably decreased, prompting one prosecutor to remark on the importance of belief despite the emphasis on seeking the truth in judicial matters.
