Former Mayor of Taoyuan and Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-ts'an, is suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act. The Taoyuan Prosecutor's Office applied for detention and restricted Cheng with a 5 million NT dollar bail, house arrest, and travel restrictions, with the prosecution appealing the decision. Premier Lai Ching-te emphasized the importance of investigating illegal activities regardless of political affiliations and individuals. He stated that combating fraud, eradicating crime, and curbing corruption are crucial tasks to maintain national development, social stability, and meet public expectations.
