During a recent visit to China to attend the Strait Forum, Lien Chan, Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang, sparked controversy by stating that as a genuine Taiwanese, he can also be a proper Chinese. This statement led media personality Yu Mei-mei to suggest buying a plane ticket to send Lien Chan, former President Ma Ying-jeou, and Kuomintang legislative caucus convener Fei Hung-yi to China. She criticized Lien for trying to please both sides, with Taiwanese finding his behavior distasteful. Yu Mei-mei emphasized that those who enjoy Taiwan's democracy should not adhere to the concept of 'One China,' as it would lead Taiwan down a disastrous path.
