A recent study from Brigham and Women’s Hospital reveals that following a Mediterranean diet can lower all-cause mortality by 23% for women, as well as decrease the risk of death from cancer and cardiovascular disease. The research, published in JAMA, tracked over 25,000 U.S. women for 25 years and identified physical changes in biomarkers related to metabolism, inflammation, and insulin resistance associated with the diet. Emphasizing plant-based foods like nuts, legumes, fruits, and vegetables, along with healthy fats and moderate intake of fish, poultry, and dairy, the Mediterranean diet shows potential for significant long-term health benefits.
