Yesterday (7/1), a 49-year-old man surnamed Du drove a Mercedes-Benz and crashed into the Presidential Office. He lives in Banqiao District, New Taipei City, comes from an affluent family, and was wearing designer clothes at the time of the incident. Du drove a Mercedes-Benz with protest graffiti to AIT (American Institute in Taiwan) and the Presidential Office for protest, and later rammed into the flower bed in front of the Presidential Office. He was brought in for questioning by the police and has been sent to the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office for charges of endangering public safety and obstructing official duties. Du, who does not need to work due to his family wealth, also suffers from schizophrenia. Additionally, he was shouting 'My wife is a spy!' when being escorted. His wife went to the police station to encourage him to cooperate but he refused. Du was seen wearing designer clothes costing an estimated total of 50,000 NTD when arrested.
