Mexican Peso Experiences Largest Annual Decline Against US Dollar in 16 Years

Reported 3 days ago

The Mexican peso has fallen nearly 23% this year, closing at 20.82 pesos per US dollar, marking its most significant drop since the 2008 financial crisis. Initially gaining steadily, the peso's decline accelerated after the leftist Morena party's electoral victory in June, leading to constitutional reforms that have raised concerns about judicial independence. The situation worsened with the November election of Donald Trump and his tariff threats against Mexico, contributing to a nearly 14% drop in Mexico's main stock index.
