The extension of the decommission date for the No. 1 unit of the Formosa Plastics Miaoli Power Plant, originally scheduled for June but extended to next year, has sparked controversy. The Minister of Economic Affairs, Wang Mei-Chin, stated that the extension is necessary to fulfill the contract due to the unfulfilled amount of electricity during the pandemic. Taiwan Power Company's spokesperson emphasized that the power reduction until 2025 is in line with contract terms. Although concerns about power shortages have been raised, both parties assure that Taiwan's power supply is well managed and monitored regularly.
