In recent news, some temples in Miaoli County received a public document from the Miaoli Reserve Command Headquarters, inquiring if they would be willing to store large amounts of ammunition on temple grounds in case of war. The request to sign an 'Ammunition Pre-Storage Point Support Agreement' raised concerns among nearby residents, who worried that burning incense or setting off firecrackers during temple activities could lead to ammunition explosions and endanger households. The military has yet to respond to these concerns. The Miaoli County Tin Loh Township Wugu Temple, a center of faith for the Hakka community, received a letter from the reserve command on the 17th, requesting assistance in signing the agreement to store ammunition temporarily for the reserve forces. While opinions on storing ammunition varied among temples, many residents expressed anxiety over the possibility of impending conflict, some even questioning whether the presidency of Lai Ching-te had not improved cross-strait relations, instilling fear of war from across the strait. Residents voiced concerns, with one wondering, 'Is the CCP coming? Are they preparing ammunition, getting ready for war?' Some questioned the unreasonable restrictions on fireworks. The Miaoli Reserve Command Headquarters has yet to clarify the situation and awaits further explanation from the military. In response to media reports, the reserve command clarified that the request was for training purposes to enhance logistical support resilience and did not involve actual ammunition storage. They emphasized the need for national security and the collective defense effort of all citizens, pledging to continue military readiness training to strengthen forces and urged continued support from the public.
