The U.S. Federal Trade Commission states that the consolidation of pharmacies and health insurance companies has led to a few pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) having a significant impact on prescription drug prices in the United States. The FTC's findings suggest that the top PBMs, which manage 79% of U.S. prescription drug claims, have enriched themselves at the expense of smaller pharmacies and consumers. The report calls for possible increased regulation to address these issues.
