A 20-year-old migrant from Venezuela, Bernardo Raul Castro Mata, who shot and wounded two NYPD cops in Queens, claimed that firing at police was common practice back in his home country. Admitting to being a member of the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, Castro Mata said he accidentally fired at the officers when they tried to stop him. He faces a 20-count indictment of attempted murder and other charges, potentially leading to 80 years in prison if found guilty.
