Military Officers Involved in Food Can Scandal Sentenced in Matsu Coast Guard Case

Reported 7 months ago

Five military officers, including a former lieutenant colonel and staff director of the Matsu Coast Guard, were found guilty of embezzling 64 boxes of canned food from the military, transporting them from Matsu to Keelung for personal use or to give to friends and family. The officers were sentenced to various terms ranging from 1 year 3 months to 3 years in prison, with fines and confiscation of crime proceeds. The case originated from a complaint by soldiers in Matsu last year, which led to investigations exposing the embezzlement scheme. Two individuals involved in transporting the stolen goods were also prosecuted. One officer admitted guilt and requested probation, while another denied involvement. Two civilians implicated confessed to the crime. The convicted officers have been dismissed from their positions and faced legal consequences for their actions.
