A military volunteer soldier surnamed Chen was caught sleeping on duty while on night guard duty last year. Chen, a 25-year-old infantryman in the naval marine sixth brigade, left his post to sleep in his dorm after unloading his rifle, magazines, and bayonet without a proper handover. He was caught by a security officer and subsequently sentenced to 2 years probation, with a fine requirement. The judge considered his lack of a criminal record, admission of guilt, and low risk of repeat offense in the sentence.
