The annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca and the important festival of Sacrifice Festival took place on the 14th and 15th of June in 2024. While millions of worshipers flocked to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage, people in Senegal, Yemen, and Tunisia struggled economically and couldn't afford sacrificial animals. In areas like Gaza, some Muslims chose not to sacrifice animals due to ongoing conflicts. Jordanians protested in support of Gaza during the festivities. Muslims in Lebanon, Egypt, and Iraq also prayed for Gaza amidst the celebrations. Despite hardships, pilgrimage activities proceeded with excitement and devotion, with participants climbing Mount Arafat and performing the symbolic stoning of demons, while in conflict-ridden areas the festival was observed with prayers and calls for peace.
