Minimum Wage Increase: Tripartite Meeting Suggests Not Exceeding 3% Increase

Reported 8 months ago

During a meeting, the chairman of the tripartite committee, Lin Bofeng, recommended that the minimum wage increase should not exceed 3% for 2025, citing concerns over rising labor and health insurance costs, which would lead to overall cost increases and be disadvantageous to both labor and management. The media previously reported an estimated minimum wage increase of 3.8% starting, potentially raising monthly wages to 28,000 yuan. The Ministry of Labor clarified that a joint meeting on June 26 would discuss the current socioeconomic situation and a research report from April, with no specific wage increase proposal yet, awaiting the decision of the third quarter review. Lin Bofeng also highlighted that the government has raised the basic wage for 8 consecutive years, with a wage increase of about 37.3% monthly and 52.5% hourly, leading to higher health insurance costs and significant price increases. Therefore, he suggested that the basic wage increase for 2025 should not exceed 3%.
