Interior Minister Shih-Fang Liu stated that there should be no further increase in subsidies for New Qing-An. The policy, introduced last year, has been criticized for fueling speculation and house prices. With nearly 50,000 households benefiting from the loans, the ministry believes that due to inflow of hot money and external debt factors, additional subsidies are not advisable and have some effect on curbing housing prices. The government introduced the Qing-An loans in 2010 and the more favorable New Qing-An last year, but concerns about rising demand and prices persist, prompting the ministry to suggest against further subsidies if the central bank announces an interest rate increase.
