Since Minister Liu Shih-fang took office, the Ministry of the Interior has been actively promoting public housing and considering adjusting related policies. In response to concerns that the new youth housing loans are boosting housing market demand and possibly inflating prices, the Ministry stated on June 11 that if the central bank announces an interest rate hike in the future, they will recommend against additional interest subsidies to prevent non-self-occupation buyers from pouring funds into the market, undermining efforts to curb property prices. While the youth housing loans have been effective in assisting young people without their own homes to purchase houses, recent statistics suggest that the loans have indeed spurred a new wave of demand in the housing market, prompting caution against further price increases should interest rates rise.
