A 13-year-old girl in Taichung city was misdiagnosed with gastroenteritis in January when she actually had fulminant myocarditis, leading to shock. She was rushed to China Medical University Hospital where she was diagnosed and had to undergo emergency treatment with an Impella heart pump due to poor blood circulation leading to blackened feet. The girl's mother spent a million dollars on the device, helping her daughter recover and resume normal life. The girl's first funny words upon regaining consciousness after numerous defibrillations were towards a doctor, making him laugh. The doctors advised that symptoms of acute myocarditis can be subtle at first but warned of severe symptoms like palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, and cold limbs needing immediate medical help.
