On July 3, 2024, rumors circulated online about Taiwan judges encouraging crime and a large-scale international human trafficking operation. The images and messages were falsely linked to recent events but were actually old photos from a 2022 Cambodia job scam case where 7 Taiwanese nationals were assisted by authorities upon returning to Taiwan due to being potentially trapped in a cross-border work scam. The claims of 33 ringleaders and thousands of victims were debunked, with only 138 arrests and 39 detentions reported. The misinformation incorrectly portrayed Taiwan's involvement in a massive human trafficking scheme. Sources investigated the origins of the false news, revealing the misleading nature of the allegations.
