Participants of the upcoming 'Minions Fun Run' event in New Taipei City, Taiwan, raised complaints after receiving race shirts that were significantly different from the advertised ones. The city's consumer protection official intervened, prompting the organizer, Capitol Corporation, to apologize and offer solutions such as providing the originally advertised shirts or full refunds. The incident highlights common disputes in recent years regarding delayed, incomplete, or mismatched merchandise for running events involving collaborations with popular cartoon brands. The organizer's premature registration before finalizing designs with copyright holders resulted in the discrepancies. To address concerns before the weekend event, the consumer protection official instructed the organizer to announce resolution options on the event website, allowing participants to request the original shirts by a specified deadline or opt for refunds. The official also notified the Taipei City government for further actions if any advertising violations were identified.
