Mississippi authorities are against the proposal to accommodate migrant children at the former Harrah's Tunica hotels.

Reported 4 months ago

Local officials in Tunica, Mississippi voted against supporting a proposal to house unaccompanied migrant children at former casino hotels, following opposition from Republican state officials and the local sheriff. The proposal by a company called Rapid Deployment aimed to reuse the hotels to house up to 250 children aged 17 and younger, not the initially discussed 2,000. Despite arguments that the facility would not strain local resources, officials cited concerns about the community impact and lack of preparedness for the sudden influx of children.
