Wang Yichuan, the executive director of the DPP Policy Committee, sparked controversy by suggesting on a TV program that mobile signal analysis could be used to gather information on crowds outside the Legislative Yuan. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office summoned Wang Yichuan as a witness to explain the matter, citing violations of the Communication Security and Protection Act and the Personal Information Protection Act. The NCC initiated an administrative investigation, while major telecom companies in Taiwan vowed to abide by privacy laws and denied any wrongdoing in relation to Wang's statements.
